The trimmer arrived in the popular human-proof plastic shell. Unfortunately, the wrap was the strongest thing in the shipment. The trimmer’s first minus was that the trimmer did not ship with the “ribbon” required to extract the batteries – and referenced in the instructions. Second was the comb in the kit – a waste of space that weighs less that the human-proof plastic shell (and is far more flexible).
Since it was a gift, substitute ribbon was available for testing. The unit definitely needed testing, but at the factory.
The plastic “clips” that hold the flimsy plastic body together do not function, nor does the switch. Once two of the batteries were in place, the trimmer started buzzing and absolutely NOTHING would shut it off except … removing the batteries. (Thank you, Hallmark, for your quality ribbon.) One of many probable reasons for the switch to fail was that the case halves were improperly aligned; the switch could not stay in the off position. Noise was the least of my worries, but it is considerably louder than the electric versions. Think “1950s dental drills”. As for actually trimming hair, forget it – that won’t happen with this model.
Wahl has fallen far from its reputation for reliability – my mother was a hairdresser and would use nothing else. If this is Wahl’s latest, I will stick with my reliable, quiet straight razor for trimming. I truly hope the Amazon returns policy is good; I do not want a replacement of a flawed design with flimsy construction.

Excellent answer to me not having 220V clippers in Iraq. Good power, size. Did not include the spray, though.

Pros: Price, Closeness of trim
Cons: A little noisy, feels cheap
When looking for this item I was looking at all hair trimmers. I just needed something to compliment the hair care system I already had, the big clippers couldn’t get nearly close enough to my neck to make it a clean cut.
I’m happy with this purchase, the price was right. The trimmer is a little loud, and it is battery powered, so you’ll have to replace the batteries which can be a pain if you use it a lot. The unit itself feels very cheap, especially the on/off switch, but I haven’t had any problems with it yet.
I recommend this product and gave it a good rating do to it’s value. If you need a cheap trimmer for quick touch-ups and neckline trims, this is for you. If you’re looking for something that feels sturdy in you hand and has a nice quiet hum, you’re going to have to pay more.
Update 12-5-08:
A while back I dropped the unit on a linoleum floor and the plastic body cracked. A little scotch tape fixed the problem.
